USPS Holiday Price Increase 2026: What Sellers Will Pay From Oct. 4 to Jan. 17

Here is what each USPS label will cost during the holiday price change, which services go up, and how it stacks on the April 8% increase.

Share

The USPS holiday price increase for 2026 starts on Oct. 4, 2026 and runs until Jan. 17, 2027. For those 15 weeks, Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, and Priority Mail Express labels will cost between $0.40 and $18.20 more per package at commercial prices. This comes on top of the 8% temporary increase USPS has charged since April.

The change hits every USPS label, no matter where you buy it. Labels bought through Amazon Buy Shipping, eBay or another marketplace, shipping software, or the Post Office counter all use the same USPS price tables. If you ship your own orders or returns on USPS, this is your Q4 shipping cost.

Key takeaways

  • Dates: Holiday prices will apply from 12 a.m. Central Time on Oct. 4, 2026 until 12 a.m. Central Time on Jan. 17, 2027.
  • Services: Ground Advantage, Priority Mail (including Cubic and Flat Rate), and Priority Mail Express will go up. Media Mail and international shipping will not.
  • Size of the increase: Ground Advantage and Priority Mail labels will rise $0.40 to $9.10 at commercial prices. USPS’s filing puts the average near 6%, and most single labels rise about 2% to 15%.
  • Biggest jumps: Packages going to Zones 5 through 9, and packages over 25 lb, take the largest increases.
  • It stacks: The holiday prices add to the April 8% increase. Both are scheduled to end on Jan. 17, 2027, and USPS has not announced January 2027 prices.

What USPS announced

On Aug. 25, 2026, USPS announced a temporary price change for the 2026 holiday shipping season. It will start at 12 a.m. Central Time on Oct. 4, 2026 and end at 12 a.m. Central Time on Jan. 17, 2027. USPS has published the final price files for the change on its Postal Explorer site.

Many sellers call this a “holiday surcharge” or “peak season surcharge.” USPS does not add it as a separate fee. It builds the increase into the label price itself, so you will not see a surcharge line on your label or invoice. The label will simply cost more for the same weight and zone.

Which USPS services are affected (and which are not)

Only three USPS package services that sellers normally use are going up. The rest of the services sellers use for packages stay the same.

Service Holiday increase?
USPS Ground Advantage (including Cubic) Yes
Priority Mail (including Cubic and Flat Rate) Yes
Priority Mail Express Yes
Media Mail No
International services No

Parcel Select will also go up, by $0.40 to $2.35. It is a bulk service for shippers who drop mail at destination postal facilities, and most sellers never see it in their label tools.

Extra fees are not part of this change. The nonstandard length fees and the USPS $50 HazMat noncompliance fee stay the same.

How much Ground Advantage will increase

Ground Advantage labels will go up $0.40 to $7.70 at commercial prices. The amount depends on two things: the weight band and the zone group. Zones 1 to 4 are closer destinations, and Zones 5 to 9 are farther away.

Ground Advantage commercial increase per label

Weight Zones 1–4 Zones 5–9
Up to 3 lb +$0.40 +$0.55
4 to 10 lb +$0.65 +$1.05
11 to 25 lb +$1.05 +$1.75
26 to 70 lb +$3.15 +$7.70

Packages under 1 lb take the “up to 3 lb” amount. A 4 oz or 12 oz Ground Advantage label will cost $0.40 more in Zones 1 to 4 and $0.55 more in Zones 5 to 9.

Ground Advantage Cubic follows the same pattern by cubic tier:

Cubic tier Zones 1–4 Zones 5–9
0.1 to 0.3 +$0.40 +$0.55
0.4 to 0.9 +$0.65 +$1.05
1.0 +$1.05 +$1.75

How much Priority Mail and Flat Rate will increase

Priority Mail labels will go up $0.40 to $9.10 at commercial prices. Zones 1 to 4 get the same amounts as Ground Advantage. Zones 5 to 9 go up more, so long-distance Priority Mail takes the biggest dollar jumps of the common services.

Priority Mail commercial increase per label

Weight Zones 1–4 Zones 5–9
Up to 3 lb +$0.40 +$0.85
4 to 10 lb +$0.65 +$1.75
11 to 25 lb +$1.05 +$3.85
26 to 70 lb +$3.15 +$9.10

Priority Mail Cubic uses two tiers: 0.1 to 0.3 cubic feet will rise $0.40 (Zones 1–4) or $0.85 (Zones 5–9), and 0.4 to 0.5 cubic feet will rise $0.65 or $1.75.

Flat Rate prices do not change by zone, so each box has one increase.

Flat Rate item Commercial now Commercial from Oct. 4 Increase
Flat Rate Envelope $11.12 $11.97 +$0.85
Small Flat Rate Box $12.10 $12.95 +$0.85
Medium Flat Rate Box $21.17 $22.02 +$0.85
Large Flat Rate Box $31.00 $32.75 +$1.75

At retail, the Large Flat Rate Box will go up $2.10 and other Flat Rate items will go up $1.00.

Priority Mail Express will rise $1.40 to $18.20 per label at commercial prices, depending on weight and zone. The Priority Mail Express Flat Rate Envelope will go up $2.35.

Retail vs. commercial: which prices apply to you

Most sellers pay commercial prices, and the Post Office counter charges retail prices. The holiday increase applies to both.

Labels bought online through Amazon Buy Shipping, eBay and other marketplaces, or shipping software are priced at USPS commercial levels. Labels bought at a Post Office counter use retail prices, which are higher, and the retail holiday increase is usually higher too.

Retail increase per label

Weight Ground Advantage Zones 1–4 Ground Advantage Zones 5–9 Priority Mail Zones 1–4 Priority Mail Zones 5–9
Up to 3 lb +$0.50 +$0.75 +$0.50 +$1.00
4 to 10 lb +$0.80 +$1.40 +$0.80 +$2.10
11 to 25 lb +$1.25 +$2.75 +$1.25 +$4.30
26 to 70 lb +$3.90 +$7.50 +$3.90 +$9.10

Some marketplaces and label tools offer their own discounted USPS rates, and those can differ from USPS's published commercial price by a few cents. The final price shows on the label screen before you buy.

What the increase adds to real labels

A typical label will cost 4% to 7% more during the holiday period. These examples use USPS commercial prices.

Label Zone 4 now → Oct. 4 Zone 4 change Zone 8 now → Oct. 4 Zone 8 change
Ground Advantage 4 oz $7.46 → $7.86 +$0.40 (5.4%) $8.40 → $8.95 +$0.55 (6.5%)
Ground Advantage 1 lb $8.15 → $8.55 +$0.40 (4.9%) $10.67 → $11.22 +$0.55 (5.2%)
Ground Advantage 5 lb $11.02 → $11.67 +$0.65 (5.9%) $19.19 → $20.24 +$1.05 (5.5%)
Ground Advantage 15 lb $17.67 → $18.72 +$1.05 (5.9%) $32.91 → $34.66 +$1.75 (5.3%)
Priority Mail 1 lb $10.40 → $10.80 +$0.40 (3.8%) $15.22 → $16.07 +$0.85 (5.6%)
Priority Mail 5 lb $15.72 → $16.37 +$0.65 (4.1%) $29.18 → $30.93 +$1.75 (6.0%)
Priority Mail 15 lb $23.91 → $24.96 +$1.05 (4.4%) $53.60 → $57.45 +$3.85 (7.2%)
Small Flat Rate Box $12.10 → $12.95 +$0.85 (7.0%) Same as Zone 4 Same as Zone 4
Large Flat Rate Box $31.00 → $32.75 +$1.75 (5.6%) Same as Zone 4 Same as Zone 4

The increase steps up at 4 lb, 11 lb, and 26 lb, so a package just over a break pays more twice: once for the extra pound and again for the larger holiday increase. A 3 lb Ground Advantage label to Zone 8 will rise $0.55, while a 4 lb label will rise $1.05. The largest step is at 26 lb. A 25 lb Ground Advantage label to Zone 8 will go from $78.19 to $79.94, while a 26 lb label will go from $82.80 to $90.50.

Weigh packages on an accurate package scale. USPS rounds any fraction of a pound up to the next pound, so a few ounces can move a package into a higher band.

How this stacks on 2026's other USPS increases

The Oct. 4 change is the fourth USPS price move of 2026. Each one built on the one before it:

Date Change
Jan. 18, 2026 Annual price increase: Ground Advantage up about 7.8%, Priority Mail up about 6.6%
Apr. 26, 2026 8% temporary price change, scheduled to run until Jan. 17, 2027
Jul. 12, 2026 Commercial Ground Advantage ounce tiers under 1 lb priced at the 15.999 oz rate
Oct. 4, 2026 Holiday prices added until Jan. 17, 2027

Light packages have taken the hardest hit. A 4 oz Ground Advantage label to Zone 8 cost $5.89 on Jan. 18. It rose to $6.36 in April, jumped to $8.40 in July, and will be $8.95 from Oct. 4. That is 52% more than in January. A 1 lb Ground Advantage label to Zone 4 will go from $7.55 in January to $8.55, up 13%. A 1 lb Priority Mail label to Zone 8 will go from $14.09 to $16.07, up 14%.

Our breakdown of the July 12 sub-1-lb Ground Advantage changes explains why light packages jumped so much this summer.

How 2026 compares with past holiday seasons

The 2026 holiday increase is the largest of the last three years. USPS skipped a holiday increase in 2023, then added one in 2024 and 2025.

Year Smallest commercial increase Ground Advantage, Zones 5–9, 26 to 70 lb
2023 No holiday increase No holiday increase
2024 +$0.30 +$5.50
2025 +$0.30 +$5.50
2026 +$0.40 +$7.70

Every Ground Advantage band will go up more in 2026 than in 2025. In Zones 5 to 9, the 4 to 10 lb increase moves from $0.75 to $1.05, and the 11 to 25 lb increase moves from $1.25 to $1.75. Priority Mail follows the same trend: the Zones 5 to 9 heavy-package increase moves from $6.50 in 2025 to $9.10 in 2026.

Who pays it: FBM, FBA, and returns

Anyone who ships on USPS labels will pay the holiday prices. That includes merchant-fulfilled (FBM) orders, eBay and other marketplace orders, and orders from your own website. It applies the same way whether you buy the label through Amazon Buy Shipping, another marketplace, shipping software, or the Post Office.

FBA fulfillment fees do not change because of this USPS move. Amazon sets FBA fees on its own schedule, which already includes Amazon's 3.5% FBA surcharge this year.

Return labels on Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, or Priority Mail Express use the same price tables, so returns shipped during the holiday period will generally cost more too. The exact charge depends on how your return labels are set up and billed.

What to do before Oct. 4

A few checks now can keep the holiday prices from eating into Q4 margins.

  1. Review shipping charges and templates. If you charge customers for shipping, decide whether your rates for Oct. 4 to Jan. 17 still cover the label cost.
  2. Check weights near the breaks. Look at products that ship just over 3, 10, or 25 lb. Lighter packaging may drop them into a lower band.
  3. Weigh your Zone 5 to 9 exposure. Long-distance orders take the largest increases, especially on Priority Mail.
  4. Compare rates wherever you buy labels. The USPS increase applies everywhere, but the final price can vary by a few cents across label tools. If you ship through Amazon, look at linking your own USPS account to Amazon Buy Shipping and compare what shows at checkout.
  5. Watch for adjustments. Higher prices make weight and size errors more costly. Review carrier shipping adjustments and back-charges so you know what to look for.
  6. Note the holiday send-by dates. For delivery by Dec. 25 in the Lower 48, USPS recommends shipping by Dec. 17 for Ground Advantage, Dec. 18 for Priority Mail, and Dec. 19 for Priority Mail Express. See USPS holiday shipping dates for Alaska, Hawaii, and military addresses.

What happens after Jan. 17, 2027

Both temporary increases are scheduled to end on Jan. 17, 2027. That covers the holiday prices and the 8% temporary change from April.

As of Sep. 25, 2026, USPS has not announced its January 2027 shipping prices. USPS usually sets new permanent prices in January, so check its announcements before you plan Q1 shipping costs.

FAQs

Does USPS have a holiday surcharge in 2026?

Yes. USPS calls it a temporary price change, and it will run from Oct. 4, 2026 until Jan. 17, 2027. It is built into label prices for Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, and Priority Mail Express, so it will not show as a separate fee.

When do USPS holiday prices start and end in 2026?

Holiday prices will start at 12 a.m. Central Time on Oct. 4, 2026 and end at 12 a.m. Central Time on Jan. 17, 2027. Labels bought during that window use the holiday prices.

How much is the USPS holiday price increase in 2026?

At commercial prices, Ground Advantage will rise $0.40 to $7.70 per label, Priority Mail will rise $0.40 to $9.10, and Priority Mail Express will rise $1.40 to $18.20. The amount depends on weight and zone. Retail increases at the Post Office are usually higher.

Are Media Mail and international shipping affected?

No. Media Mail and international prices will stay the same during the holiday period.

Do the holiday prices apply at the Post Office or only on online labels?

Both. Online labels bought through Amazon Buy Shipping, eBay, other marketplaces, or shipping software use commercial prices with the commercial increase. Post Office counter labels use retail prices with the larger retail increase.

Is this on top of the 8% increase from April?

Yes. The April 8% temporary change stays in place, and the holiday prices add to it. Both are scheduled to end on Jan. 17, 2027.

How much do Flat Rate boxes go up?

At commercial prices, the Large Flat Rate Box will go up $1.75 and other Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes will go up $0.85. At retail, the Large box will go up $2.10 and the others $1.00.

Is the 2026 holiday increase bigger than 2025's?

Yes. Every Ground Advantage band goes up more in 2026. The smallest commercial increase moves from $0.30 to $0.40, and the Zones 5 to 9 heavy-package increase moves from $5.50 to $7.70.

Will USPS prices drop on Jan. 17, 2027?

The holiday prices and the April 8% change are both scheduled to end on Jan. 17, 2027. USPS has not announced its January 2027 prices, so it is not yet known what labels will cost after that date.
