Why You’re Not in the Buy Box

Amazon’s Seller Assistant can now tell you why your offer isn’t the Featured Offer — the placement most sellers still call the Buy Box. Here are the four things it checks, what each one means, and how to fix them.

As of August 2026, Amazon’s AI-powered Seller Assistant can diagnose why you’re not in the Buy Box — the spot next to “Add to Cart” that Amazon now calls the Featured Offer — and hand you specific steps to fix it. You can run up to 10 ASINs in a single conversation to spot patterns across your catalog. But whether or not you use the tool, the four things it checks are the same four things that decide the Buy Box for everyone. Understanding them is the real win.

Why this matters more in 2026. In July, Amazon began removing the standalone seller-performance eligibility gate for the Featured Offer, rolling out globally through the end of the year. More offers are now considered than ever — but a wider pool doesn’t mean a wider share. Landed price, delivery speed, fulfillment reliability, inventory, and seller performance still decide who actually wins. So “why am I not in the Buy Box?” is a question more sellers are asking, and the answer lives in the four areas below.

The four reasons you’re not the Featured Offer

Seller Assistant diagnoses across these four areas — and so can you. Each one has a tell-tale symptom and a fix.

1Offer buyabilityYou’ll see: your offer can’t be featured at all — missing inventory, a listing block, missing required information, or another offer-level issue. The fix: clear the blocker. Restock, complete the listing details, and resolve any compliance or suppression flags so the offer can compete.
2PricingYou’ll see: your landed price (item + shipping) sits above the current Featured Offer, or outside Amazon’s competitive range. The fix: compare your landed price to the Featured Offer’s and close the gap — on landed price, not sticker price. Remember the cheapest offer doesn’t automatically win.
3Delivery speedYou’ll see: your delivery promise is slower than the current Featured Offer’s. The fix: tighten handling and transit time. For FBM, a faster, more reliable promise is decisive — and it’s where recent USPS rate increases have squeezed sellers.
4Regional coverageYou’ll see: your offer isn’t shippable to some regions, so you hold the Buy Box in some areas and lose it in others. The fix: widen where you can deliver quickly.

A quick note on names: Featured Offer is Amazon’s current term for the Buy Box. Same placement — the box beside “Add to Cart” that the large majority of Amazon sales flow through. Most sellers still call it the Buy Box, and we’ll use both here.

How to check your own ASINs

Ask Seller Assistant directly. Open Seller Assistant in Seller Central and ask:

Why am I not the Featured Offer on [your ASIN]?

You can check up to 10 ASINs in one conversation — useful for spotting which of the four factors is your recurring problem, so you fix the pattern instead of one listing at a time.

The tool is genuinely handy, but it isn’t doing anything mysterious: it’s reading your pricing, health, account health, and inventory signals and mapping them to the four buckets above. If you already know which bucket a listing falls into, you can often skip straight to the fix.

FAQs

Is the Featured Offer the same as the Buy Box?

Yes. Featured Offer is Amazon’s current name for it; most sellers still call it the Buy Box. It’s the same placement next to “Add to Cart” where the majority of sales happen.

Does the cheapest price always win the Buy Box?

No. Amazon weighs your landed price alongside delivery speed, fulfillment reliability, inventory, and seller performance. The lowest-priced offer often loses to a slightly higher one that delivers faster and more reliably.

Did Amazon remove Buy Box eligibility requirements in 2026?

Amazon removed the standalone seller-performance gate that could exclude an offer before it was even compared, rolling out through the end of 2026. More offers are now considered — but the same factors still decide the winner.

How do I find out why I’m not the Featured Offer?

Ask Seller Assistant in Seller Central “Why am I not the Featured Offer on [ASIN]?” It checks up to 10 ASINs per conversation and returns specific fixes.

Can FBM sellers win the Buy Box?

Yes. Delivery speed and reliability now matter more than fulfillment type, so an FBM offer with a fast, dependable delivery promise can win — provided pricing, inventory, and account health hold up.
