Maybe you noticed (or didn’t notice) the memo from Amazon that was posted to the Seller Central message board yesterday. To briefly summarize, Amazon is going to allow sellers who create new product pages in specific categories to not pay Long-Term Storage Fees for up to 6 months for those products. These listings must be created between August 21 and November 30, 2018 and the inventory needs to be at the warehouse by December 5.
So now that we’ve seen the “What” and the “When”, lets break it down a little further to understand even more about this new Incentive.
- Who – Only sellers with a Pro plan are eligible to create new product pages. It seems that Amazon is reaching out to brands, so that would include private label sellers and sellers who create bundles. One thing to note is that “bundling” existing ASINs (also known as multi-packing) does not qualify for this promotion.
- Why – It’s tough to gauge how many of an item to send in to the FBA Warehouse when you are creating a new product page. Amazon doesn’t want to run the risk of being out of stock on popular items during Q4, so they are opening up the warehouses to allow more inventory storage. By removing the one big roadblock (Long-Term Storage Fees), sellers are much more likely to have larger amounts of inventory available to Amazon buyers. - Where – Amazon Fulfillment Centers located throughout the US. Here’s a really cool map that we put together to show the location of Amazon Fulfillment Centers around the World.
- How – Create a new listing in one of the qualifying categories and send the products to the Amazon warehouse as you normally would. Amazon will take care of managing the storage fees. Remember to optimize your listing to get better results. Here are some really great tips for Amazon Listing Optimization, as well as a list of service providers who can help you with every step of listing creation and optimization.
Q4 is right around the corner, and this is welcome news from Amazon. I’ve pasted the notice below for you to read more about the incentive so you can take advantage of the LTSF discount. Feel free to reach out to us if we can help you in any way.
