In an email released December 23, 2016, Amazon has announced updates to their Associates Operating Agreement. This is for participants in the Amazon Associates Program, which is their affiliate platform. Amazon Associates is a free advertising program designed to help website owners make money.

Most of the changes were related to streamlining the search and reporting functions of the site, but one change has the potential to make a lot of people, at least in one US state, very happy. Amazon has announced that Louisiana residents are now eligible to participate in the affiliate program.

After being shut down in 2009, North Carolina residents were once again allowed to rejoin the program beginning November 2, 2016. If you live in NC and your account was closed in 2009, you will need to open a new account. Due to tax legislation, Amazon is still unable to offer the Associates program to residents of Arkansas, Maine, Missouri, and Rhode Island. If you have a website and are interested in joining the Amazon Associates program, you can sign up (here)
